Description
Summary:Energy is a primary need for humankind. However, these days the need of energy may run into some problems. Dependence on fossil energy reserve still exist even though fossil energy reserve in Indonesia is thinning out. There have not been any significant changes in the methods and technologies being used today even if there are new options being offered. One of those options is non-conventional methods such as utilization of crystalline bedrock as oil and gas reservoir. Understanding the characteristic of fracture, the fracture orientation, intensity of distribution and fracture density, fault damaged zone estimation, fractal properties of fracture, and the value of porosity estimation from permeability of the basement rocks, from the study of fracture in basement rocks in North Nonga, Batam City, Riau Islands Province, could be used as a reference for analog study. Fracture data is collected from 16 granite and rhyolite measurement locations by applying linear scanline method and window scanline method. The total length of scanline line is 43,3 m and the total area of windows scanline is 44,2 m2. There are 3564 fracture data gathered, with details of 2332 shear fractures, 1225 joints, and 7 veins. The dominant directions of the joints are north-south (N-S), east-west (E-W), north west-south east (NE-SE), and north east-south west (NE-SW). While the dominant directions of shear fractures are north east-south west (NE-SW) and east south east-west north west (ESE-WNW). On the other hand, veins have directions in north-south (N-S), and exfoliation joint have even strike directions. It was found that the value of linear intensity in Turi area is in the range of 18-44/m while Tanjung Ba is 11-50/m. The value of areal intensity in Turi area is in the range of 12-30/m while Tanjung Ba is 12-25/m. The value of density in Turi area is in the range of 43-140/m2 while Tanjung Ba is 21-206/m2. Fault Damaged Zone in Turi area is ± 129 m while the fault damaged zone in Tanjung Ba area is ± 150 m. The length, aperture, and space from natural fracture in research area are distributed in power law and are fractal. The range of the porosity is 0,0035-0,047% while the range of the permeability is 0,0049-9,22.
