In Indonesia, sexuality and reproductive health education are taboo. Unsurprisingly, Dua Garis Biru's movie about sexuality and reproductive health was reaping controversy to some of the people who rejected the screening of this movie. Dua Garis Biru movie directed and written by Gina S. Noer to criticize sexuality and reproductive health education issues in Indonesia. The criticism made by Gina as her concern over education in Indonesia. Gina and her friend create the film's program as an educational learning media for students, family, and the crowd. In Indonesia, reproductive health and sexuality are of great concern because the increasing percentage of teenage pregnancies outside of marriage at the age of 15-19 years can cause various unstoppable risks.So, the film could be a solution to make people aware of the issues which are still considered taboo, like sexuality and reproductive health education. Then, the film's visual narrative tells about sexuality and reproductive health should be made properly. Hence various levels of society can receive and understand properly. Therefore, the researcher using the Dua Garis Biru movie as an object of research. The purpose of this research is to find out how the role of visual narrative in the film "Dua Garis Biru" by Gina S. Noer convey information about reproductive health and sexuality as well as reproductive health and sexuality content in films that fall into the medicalor non-medical realm and the informants' interpretation of visual narratives related to reproductive health and sexuality. The method used in this research is qualitative with a narrative analysis approach according to Tzvetan Todorov, virtual ethnography, and film studies theory. Todorov's narrative analysis approach resulted in three storylines for the film "Dua Garis Biru". These three storylines will be analyzed by visual narratives related to reproductive health and sexuality content seen from the theory of film studies on the aspects that make up the visual narrative (narrative and cinematic elements). Then the results of this narrative analysis will result in the elaboration of ivreproductive health and sexuality contents, so that they can be seen in the distribution of information in the medical or non-medical domains. After that, references from the results of this analysis will be used to see answers from informants through a virutal ethnographic approach. In which this approach conducts online interviews regarding the aspects that make up the visual narrative in the film "Two Blue Lines" to a group of young informants in urban areas. To see the results of the informants' interpretation of the role of visual narrative in the film, it raises the content of reproductive health and sexuality. Through this analysis, it can be found that the visual narrative presented in this film raises the content of reproductive health and sexuality with tenderness, the sensitivity of Gina as a woman and a mother. This is shown through the role of the character of Bima’s mother, Dara’s mother, and female obstetricians who are very important in guiding Dara and Bima to get through their journey to face unwanted pregnancies.Then the content of reproductive health and sexuality in this film raises existing information in the medical or biological and non-medical realms such as psychological, cultural-environmental, and socio-economic. After that, the informant's interpretation showed that the role of the visual narrative wasbetter understood by the informant regarding reproductive health and sexuality, which is the aspect of the story from one of the elements that make up a visual narrative, namely narrative.Becauseall informants were able to describe their interpretation on aspects of stories related to reproductiove health and sexuality from the beginniing, middle, and ending storylines.Hence this paper is expected to provide insight for researcher, filmmaker, educator, parents, teenagers, government, and various social levels. That there are various ways to handle sexuality and reproductive health education to be easily understood by teenagers as the next generation that civilized and quality text |
