As a capital of West Java, Bandung City needs a good quality water sports facility that meets international standards. Gedebage Aquatic Center is designed to meet this need. The aquatic center is designed to be an international water sport facility as a part of the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api sports complex. The main design issues include building system, structure, and image. Through a functional design approach, the main design concept entitled "building as water" is translated into the building forms and its functions. The building's vertical zoning strategy facilitates segregation of the user's circulation, as well as creating a unique circulation flow. The truss structure which is taken from the water molecule concept also gives the impression of a dynamic shape. This aquatic center is expected to become an icon of water sports facility in Indonesia that is not only new and functional, but is also sustainable.
