Summary: | Kampung Kranggan Performance Hut is an answer to the need for an art performance center in Kampung Kranggan with purpose to be one of the cultural villages by the Culture and Tourism Office of Bekasi City. With an area of 26,954 m2, the community of Kampung Kranggan can preserve culture while increasing their economic level and the public can enjoy and learn about their culture. In connection with its location on Jalan Raya Pasar Kranggan, Jatisampurna District, Bekasi City, West Java, Saung Pertunjukan Kampung Kranggan has a very strategic position because it is close to three toll gates and several important sites related to the history of Kampung Kranggan. In addition, there is also bamboo clumps vegetation along the southern side of the site and differences in contours of the site up to 10 meters.
With those conditions, Kampung Kranggan Performance Hut is designed with 'architecture as a window of culture' concept. Window can be interpreted directly as a window element or also philosophically such as the framing of something new for the common people, namely the culture of Kampung Kranggan, to the existence of various facilities that support cultural education, such as library, workshops, and gallery. This concept makes the spatial organization of the site adapt the concepts of lemah-cai, luhur-handap, and kaca-kaca, the multi-mass with traditional building modification of the Kampung Kranggan is done organically, the building envelope design is made breathable or open, and the use of structures is sourced from local materials, namely bamboo, jackfruit wood, and river stone. The final design is formed by 1 theatre building, 26 educational and commercial supporting buildings, and 3 service buildings, also bamboo and jackfruit wood conservation garden on high contours and balong/ponds on low contours.
