Description
Summary:Lawanopo Fault System in Southeast Arm of Sulawesi is interpreted as the boundary between Australia-derived Triassic sedimentary rock and the Cretaceous dismembered ophiolite of East Sulawesi. Andowia is one of the sub-districts in Konawe Utara Regency, Sulawesi Tenggara Province. The research area is 81 km2 located at the coordinates of UTM 399000 – 408000 m T and 9602000 – 9611000 m U in zone 51S with WGS84 datum. The goal of the study is to understand the geologic setting of study area with the method of the 1: 25.000-scale geologic mapping and kinematic analysis of fault-slip data. The study area is divided into five geomorphological units, i.e. Alluvial Plane, Homoclinal Hill, Fault Ridge, Folded Valley, and Ophiolite Hills, The geomorphic stage of the study area is categorized as mature. Based on the lithologic distribution, the study area consists of basement rocks, molasse deposit and surface deposit. The basement rocks are Middle to Late Triassic Sandstone 1 Unit, Middle to Late Triassic Limestone Unit, and Cretaceous Ultramafic Rocks Unit. The molasse deposit is sandstone 2 Unit with the age of Middle Miocene to Early Pliocene. The surface deposit is found in the form of recent Alluvial Deposit Unit. The main geologic structure develop in the study area are NW-SE-trending sinistral strike-slip faults. Structural analysis indicates that the generation of strike-slip fault alon g the study area occurs because of the collision of Sula-Spur with Sulawesi East Arm. The orientation and shape of strain ellipsoid is a pure shear transpression which is the Lawanopo Fault as its plane of movement.
