Summary:This research focused on making prototypes of rotary joint products, with the reverse engineering method. Rotary joints are components used to supply or circulate fluid from the stationary supply lines (pipes or tubing) to the rotating parts (drums/cylinders) to various machines without leakage. The stages carried out in this study started from collecting product information, analysis of overall functions, sub-assemblies, measurement, geometric modelling, analysis of functionality and reliability, an embodiment of imitation products, and the final is the testing stage. The rotary joint products made referred to the Pearl Joint brand type AC-10A's rotary joint product design. This type's selection was based on the need for rotary joint products to make instant food products using a drum dryer machine at the Center for Appropriate Technology - LIPI. In this research, it was not only about imitating the product, but it was also necessary to know about the design, working principle, and function of each component of the rotary joint product. The method used in this manufacturing was Reverse engineering. The reverse engineering is the process of discovering the technological principles of a device, object or system through analysis of its structure, function and how it works. This process usually involves separating and analyzing how it works in detail or creating a new product that works the same way without using or duplicating the original. The Reverse Engineering method is currently widely used in the manufacturing industry to manufacture and develop a product, especially for products that have never been produced locally. This study aimed to substitute imported products with the local product, thereby reducing these products' price.
