THE EVALUATION OF THE COLLAPSE OF CINCIN LAMA BRIDGE IN TUBAN, EAST JAVA

The collapse of Cincin Lama Bridge in East Java on April, 17th 2018 has added the list of bridge failures in Indonesia. Cincin Lama Bridge was a truss bridge with Callender Hamilton type which was the longest one in Java Island. Currently, there are not many journals analysing the collapse of Cin...

Cincin Lama Bridge was a truss bridge with Callender Hamilton type which was the longest one in Java Island. Currently, there are not many journals analysing the collapse of Cincin Lama Bridge, thus the cause of the failure is not certain .The increasing number of traffic volume and vehicles with overload condition which crossing the 41 years old bridge could be the cause of the bridge failure. The bridge was modeled by using a finite element software Midas Civil. The analysis of the bridge structure was done by using load standard SNI 03-1725-1989 and SNI 1725-2016. Moreover, the actual load supported the bridge when it was collapsed, and the fatigue life analysis was based on traffic load by Weigh In Motion (WIM). From the analysis result, it could be seen that the Cincin Lama Bridge was built by adopting SNI 03-1725-1989. However the bridge did not have enough capacity to support the load as regulated in SNI 1725-2016. The actual load model analysis showed that on the location where the failure happened, there were bridge components like bolts in the joint and the buckling resistance of top trusses which were unable to support the loads. The fatigue analysis showed that the bridge would reach fatigue in 39,5 years which means that fatigue have occurred when the bridge collapses at the age of 41 years but due to uncertainty and limited data it is necessary to conduct further research on fatigue. text
