Description
Summary:Rock mechanic data has a huge role in determining the safe and economical of mine designs. It used for slope stability analysis and reflected in factor of safety (FoS). The steepest slope mine, the more economical it becomes, but the more it is being at risk of landslides. At this point, the data representation determines the level of accuracy in slope stability analysis. There is a correlation between factors of safety and data representation to increase the economic values by reduce the probability of failure (PoF) of the mine design. In 2018, PT BC was investing to build a Rock Mechanic Laboratory (laboratory). It is a laboratory for rock strength testing. Each testing performed in a single and multi-stage of testing. It can be a standalone and sequential testing also. In facts, there are queue of sample at testing station, low utilization of tools and high standby time of laboratory tester in the rock mechanic laboratory. It is an indication of unoptimum process. The decision of increasing capacity and resource need comprehensive study and simulation for optimum operational. Simulation is widely used in quantitative analysis technique to analyze and find out an effective activity. It used various scenarios and parameters to obtain the optimum point of process. The unbalancing of resources and capacity makes the queue and low utilization tools in the testing stages. Limitation of input and expectation of output also become the constraints in decision of adding resources and increase the unit capacity for optimal process. It constraints are the fastest time, the maximum unit capacity and minimum labor requirements. Arena simulation will simulate each scenario. This study will discuss the role of rock mechanic data to increase the economic value and decision of adjusting resource and capacity in laboratory as rock mechanic data provider. The optimum operational of laboratory will provide opportunities to take external projects especialy the mining company under the holding and collaborate with educational institutions in long-term devopment strategy.
