Summary: | STS Restaurant is a small business located in Indonesia, where the F&B sector is one of the fastest growing industries, a good internal management is one of the key factors that enable businesses to have competitive advantages. The problem however, even after trying to implement HRM in STS Restaurant, the result is not showing improvement. Add to that, STS Restaurant had a high employee turnover rate in the last 2 years, 37.5% in 2018 and 50% in 2019, meaning the employee retention rate is low. Meanwhile, employee engagement shown to have a positive impact, which is more productive employee, better performance and they less likely to leave the company. Using employee engagement as a framework, this research aimed to find out what factors affecting employee retention and performance in STS Restaurant in terms of employee engagement; and how to improve it. The qualitative research methodology is used to explore the topic. Primary data is gathered through interviews with all STS Restaurant employees. Then interpreted using descriptive analysis. It is suggested that work meaningfulness, performance, benefit, work environment and growth opportunity are driving employee engagement in STS Restaurant. Work environment show the highest relations. HR practices are proposed to be implemented in STS Restaurant to improve employee engagement, which is assumed will reduce employee turnover and increase the performance. |
