Description
Summary:Concentrically braced frame or abbreviated CBF is one kind of structural system that is considerably used for buildings in region prone to earthquake. Braces used in CBF, known as lateral force bearer and structural braced, is functioned as a fuse as the first yield point occured in damaged building due to the design load. One of the problems that braces could undergo is buckling problem. Buckling phenomenon, occured when braces bear axial stress, could deteriorate the strength of the braces element gradually in cyclic load. This buckling problem could be avoided by using innovation on braces such using buckled-restrained braced. This kind of braces is restrained laterally by its case so that the probability of braces failure due to buckling in yielding state could be minimized. Comparative study is focused on CBF and BRBF with each brace configuration such as Inverted-V, V, and X-two story. Buckling restrained braced being used is governed by the result of experiment of speciment 1 which done by California University in 2006. Method such capacity design, used to govern steel structure element based on the axial force transfer of braces. The axial force of brace is governed from structural analysis by software ETABS v.9.7. The structural system is evaluated in static and dynamic evaluation by NSPA (Nonlinear Static Pushover Analysis) and NTHA (Nonlinear Time History Analysis). Evaluation is focused on the behavior and the performance level of the structure, plastic hinges mechanism, and the relation between base shear and roof displacement in inelastic condition. The evaluation result shows that BRBF system has a better structural performance than CBF system in inelastic condition. The X-two story type of brace is the most preferrable in structural performance compared to two others type of braces in CBF and BRBF.
