INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/53503 Burn is a major skin injury that mostly occurred worldwide including in Indonesia. For second degree burns, special treatment should be given in order to creating a suitable wound healing environment. Besides hydrogel wound dressing as primary care, electrical stimulation can be applied as additional treatment for promoting wound healing. Here, we used the tissue engineering concept to create novel conductive hydrogel made of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), graphene-based material (GBM), and aloe vera extract (Av) through freeze-thaw process. We synthesize the PVA/GBM/Av hydrogel and examine its potential as wound dressing. We found that it exhibited excellent hydrophilicity with contact angle between 15-31 degrees, electrical conductivity within the range of 0.0102- 0.0154 S/m which is comparable to human skin tissue, and good stability with WR of 80% after 14 days. We also presented that the addition of GBM would inhibit the growth of gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus with the lowest bacterial population was observed in PVA/GO which is 1.74 x 107 cFu/mL after 1-day incubation. In summary, our fabricated hydrogels showed their potential as wound dressing with good electrical conductivity. text |
