Indonesian president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has signed the Presidential Regulation (President Decree) Number 55 of 2019, concerning the Electric Vehicle Program for Road Transportation, stating that the acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Vehicle Program for road transportation. Indonesia is looking to attract foreign automotive manufacturers to produce electric cars in Indonesia and Hyundai Motor Group invested USD 1.55 billion to build its first manufacturing plant in Indonesia. The company will focus on the development of the electric vehicles for Indonesia. According to Jokowi, 60 percent of the key to electric vehicles is batteries and Indonesia has the right components such as cobalt, manganese, and nickel, so Indonesia is a strategic place for the electric vehicle businesses to begin an affordable and competitive electric vehicle industry. Indonesia and South Korea also signed a USD 9.1 billion electric car battery joint venture, the Indonesia-South Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA). The government has implemented the strategies for the automotive companies, but has not yet implemented strategies for the electric car owners. Hence, this research paper will define solutions and create strategies to attract Indonesian citizens in purchasing the electric cars. text
