Description
Summary:Abstract :

Degradation of water quality in Cikapundung River has been a major concern of community and local government because the river is one of water source for water source sysetem. The river flows through the center of city (Bandung) and then meets Citarum River at the downstreem. The river becomes a receiving body of domestic wastewater. These wastes are characterized by high nitrogen content. This paper will describe the application of mathematical model for estimating the transport and fate of nitrogen in a river flow. Parameters in the mathematical model are advection, dispersion, reaction and lateral load. Solution of this model is using the control volume approach at steady state flow. Simulation result describes that the concentration of ammonium, nitrite and nitrate in river have exceeded maximum degree of Level I, II and III in Goverment Regulation of Republik Indonesia (PP RI) No. 82/2001 about Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control. Maximum concentration of ammonium, nitrite and nitrate in Cikapundung River are 1,306 mg/L; 0,327 mg/L dan 11,706 mg/L, respectively. Simulation of four provision scenarios is applied to know pattern of the model. Reduction of 100% lateral load (Scenario 1) describes the ammonium, nitrite and nitrate concentration in this river are meet a demand to Level I, II and III of PP RI No. 82/2001. Reduction of 10% lateral load (Scenario 2) and reduction of 30% lateral load describes that the water quality criteria of Level I, II and III have not complied with request. Reduction of 100% initial concentration and the lateral load in every segment apply to a simulation (Scenario 4). (Scenario 4) describe the ammonium, nitrite and nitrate concentration in Cikapundung River are still high.
