The approach of this study is the demand approach, which is to regulate the travel behavior of travelers. The built environment could influence travel behavior, but studies related to the influence of the built environment to travel behavior in suburban and downtown areas have not been widely explored. As for the consideration of congestion problem, urban sprawl issues, and to fill the research gap, this study aims to explore to what extent the influence of the built environment on travel behavior in suburban and downtown areas. Travel behavior is defined by choice of mode, frequency of travel, and length of the trip. The choice of modes in this study consisted of motorbikes, cars, paratransit, transit, and active transport (walking and cycling). The built environment is measured by 5D variables. Density is measured by population density and building density. Diversity is explained by the entropy index. Design is measured by intersection density, while accessibility is measured by the number of stops and public transportation routes. Distance to transit is measured by the distance to the nearest bus stop. The influence of the built environment on the choice of mode was analyzed using multinomial logistic regression. The influence of the built environment on the frequency of trips and length of trips was calculated using linear regression. The results showed that the density of buildings and the number of routes had a significant positive effect on the probability of using transit; the coefficients are 0.002 and 1.145, respectively. The variable that has the greatest influence on travel frequency is the building's density, namely a reduction with a coefficient of -1,234. Meanwhile, the variable that has the greatest influence on the length of the trip is the number of bus stops, with a coefficient of 0,729 and a variable that has the greatest effect on reducing the length of the trip is the number of public transportation routes, with a coefficient of -0.572. The results show that in order to reduce trip length and increase the probability of using transit, additional public transport routes are required. text
