Summary: | In daily life, an event where a liquid spilling and soiling the hand while drinking a beverage due to
the liquid inside flowing on the outer wall of its container often occurs. Moreover, when the
container inclined to certain optimum angle, the liquid inside no longer flows on the outer wall of
its container and falls. In this final project, an experimental instrument is made to measure the
optimum angle when the liquid inside the container no longer flows on its outer wall and falls. This
instrument, aided by image processing, can measure the angular velocity and the liquid’s increase
in height which is then used to measure volume flow rate. The experiment shows that the instrument
successfully measures the optimal angle, this is shown by its deviation standard sample about 1 or
2 using 5 repetition on each variation. Additionally, the experiment shows when the angular
velocity for each time is high, the optimal angle gives a small value and the other way around.
Moreover, the high angular velocity for each time and small optimal angle gives a high-volume
flow rate and the other way around. By using tap water with each variation of 120 mL to 80 mL
with 10 mL differences and using 150 mL beaker, it is shown that the optimal angle’s value depends
on the liquid’s height against container’s height, where the height is indicated as the liquid’s volume
and the container’s maximum value. The closer the liquid volume to the container maximum value,
the smaller the optimal angle. An example for this result is the usage of 120 mL and 110 mL tap
water which gives the results of 45.4° and 47.2°. Another result is shown by experiment that the
high solution concentration gives high optimal angle value. By using solution with the
concentration of 25 ± 5.208 kg/m3 and 50 ± 6.250 kg/m3
, each value gives the optimal angle values
46.1° and 50.7° respectively. |
