Melonguane city is the capital of Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi.
Based on the tsunami potential map from BMKG, Talaud Islands fall into the
category of high potential tsunami because of its location at the meeting of the
Maluku plate and the newly discovered West Kawio Volcano in 2010. By
mapping the risk of tsunami formation, and analyzing the areas of cities
affected by tsunami by simulation, it can be found that the city area that has
the highest risk of damage due to tsunami waves. Tsunami losses can be
reduced by the development of city mitigation and good evacuation strategies.
Coastal areas are developed into Tsunami wave damping areas such as the
function of green space with tight vegtasi. The residential function is restricted,
and also developed building points spread over a radius of 350m as an
emergency evacuation site that can be reached by everyone within 15-25
minutes. The use of Tsunami hazard warning signs in high risk areas will
increase population awareness, and with signs pointing directions to safe lanes
and locations, will facilitate the evacuation process. In addition to emergency
evacuation, the completeness of early warning plays an important role for early
evacuation after the earthquake. With the development of a network of vehicle
lanes to the highlands and also the development of pedestrian routes to the
evacuation building (escape building) during the emergency evacuation.
Evacuation and mitigation in the city can be carried out well through good
early warning. Tsunami mitigation-oriented development can also be applied
to similar areas based on risk analysis in the region. |
