Summary: | The science of astronomy has long been known by Indonesian society as a time reference for certain cultural activities, also known as ethnoastronomy. One of the activities related to ethnoastronomy is farming. Indonesian society uses the constellation Orion and the Pleiades asterism as the timing of agricultural activities. Although nowadays it is rare to find areas that use this ethnoastronomic system, but until now Sinar Resmi Village still uses the two constellations in their agricultural activities.
Sinar Resmi Village is located in Cisolok District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The Sinar Resmi villagers have their own names for the constellation Orion and the Pleiades asterism, namely Kidang and Kerti. Although Sinar Resmi Village uses the Hijriyah Calendar system for certain activities, the village also uses the Pranata Mangsa system, which is a calendar based on the solar circulation system associated with the seasons, so that it can be used as a guide in agricultural activities. Pranata Mangsa has a rule to plant and harvest rice only once a year. Then, Sinar Resmi Village also holds the traditional Opat Belasna ceremony. Opat Belasna is a ceremony performed to commemorate the appearance of the full moon every 13th night of the 14th in the Hijri Calendar.
Of the 2 activities, namely agricultural activities and traditional Opat Belasna ceremonies, further research will be made in relation to celestial bodies and the calendar as a reference. The research method used is the method of literature study and interview method with traditional leaders / chiefs of Kasepuhan. The Orion and Pleiades altitude data were obtained from the Stellarium application. Meanwhile, in checking the date of the Opat Belasna traditional ceremony related to the appearance of the full moon, the Gregorian calendar and Hijri calendar were calculated as well as the full moon phase date data from Fred Espenak and the Stellarium application.
