INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/53733 The piping system in the LNG industry is a system for transporting fluid from one location to another. To ensure the safety and for the continuity of the production process, the stress due to the loading in piping system must be checked. In this case, stress analysis should be conducted. In this final year assignment, stress analysis of the piping system in the LNG industry was conducted using CAESAR II software with reference to the ASME B31.3 standard. There are 2 cases of loading that are considered, namely the case of sustained load and the case of occasional load. The load received by the piping system in the case of sustained load is the load from the weight and the pressure of the pipe. In the case of occasional load, the load comes from the weight and the pressure and the temperature of the pipe, as well as the thrust in the pipe In the case of sustained load, there is no node that has stress higher than the allowable stress, with maximum stress ratio of 47.28%. In the case of occasional load, there is one node which has a stress that exceeds the allowable stress with a ratio of 106.54%. In this case the piping system is no longer considered safe. Modifications were made by adding stiffening elements using pipes with diameter of 4 inches and thickness of 6.02 mm. It was found that the highest stress ratio is 47.14% for the case of sustained load and 99.5% for the case of occasional load. Thus, the piping system is considered safe. text |
