PERTUMBUHAN LARVA LALAT TENTARA HITAM (HERMETIA ILLUCENS) DENGAN PEMBERIAN PAKAN BERUPA SUSU KADALUWARSA DAN ALPUKAT
Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL, Hermetia illucens) known for its ability to consume varied organic wastes to produce a protein and fat rich biomass. In this study, BSFL was fed with expired processed food, a study which hardly found in Indonesia. Product applied in this study was expired milk powder...

In this study, BSFL was fed with expired processed food, a study which hardly found in Indonesia. Product applied in this study was expired milk powder which compared to commercial chicken feed as control and rotten avocado as an example of organic waste applied as BSFL feed material. About 200 individuals of 7 days old BSFL used as study object for each feed material. Larva was fed every 3 days (rate 200 mg/larva/day) until 50% of larvae metamorphed to prepupae. Resulting pupae kept inside individual plastic for adult sex identification and determination of development time from eggs to adult. Expired milk powder and control group had higher final larvae weight (0.11 and 0.12 gr, respectively), more adult female (?:?, 90:94 and 90:98, respectively), shorter time needed to reach pupae (in 34 days for both), and shorter life expectation (57,3 and 54,8 days, respectively). On the other hand, larvae of avocado group produced smaller larvae (average final weight : 0,07 gram), produced more adult males (?:?, 102:85), longer time needed to reach pupae (38 days), and longer life (59,7 days). Control group had better survival rate (100%) followed by Avocado group (98,5%) and expired milk group (96,5%). Based on this result, it can be concluded that expired milk can be used as substitution of commercial chicken feed for more sustainable BSFL production system. text |
