The traditional layout is adequate only when product families are sufficiently stable and production volumes are relatively large, therefore, there is a need to design layout which anticipate volatile environment called as the next generation layout. A popular alternative to this layout is a modular layout, where a layout module is essentially a group of machines-connected by a material flow network that exhibits allow pattern characteristic of a specific type of layout, such as the Flow-line, Cellular or Functional layout. <br />

This research presents a simple approach by designing a Modified Hamiltonian Circuit (MHC) in the graph theoretic method to solve the modular layout configuration problem. Results obtained from testing the method are compared its performance with the other methods and found to be satisfactory. The result shows that MHC more efficient than other methods with the best material handling cost. |
