This bionic hand has its capability to give feedback to user in the form of vibration with different frequencies on each pressure given to its thumb. The total cost of designing this bionic hand is about Rp 1.287.710 and Rp 103.150 for the stretch sensor, this total cost is much cheaper than most of the bionic hand products in the market. text |

The rapid development of technology, electronic devices that have been developed
to be much smaller and cheaper, increases the opportunity of any kind of
technology, including electronical devices in prosthetic hand which is an artificial
hand for replacing the hand function that loses in accidental case or congenital
disorder. The development of prosthetic hand or bionic hand already reach where
the hand itself can be controlled by muscles from residual limb (myo-powered
prosthesis), able to do daily acvitivties like grasping an object, tying shoelaces, and
etc. No more controlled by another part of the body (body-powered prosthesis).
Comercial products of bionic hand are already available on markets, but with the
price range above 30.000 USD which is still unreachable for certain people that
really needs it.
Some of researchers already focused on researching about low-cost bionic hand.
In this research, a bionic hand developed using a stretch sensor to read the
muscular activity in residual limb that will be processed to move an actuator which
is servo motor, equipped with a load cell embedded in a finger to detect the pressure
on hand to vibrate a motor afterwards so the user can feel how strong is the
pressure given to the object. This research using low-cost components so the bionic
hand can still do its daily job with very reach-able price.
The result of this research is a bionic hand prototype that be able to move its fingers
by using the muscle contraction of user’s residual limb. This bionic hand has its
capability to give feedback to user in the form of vibration with different frequencies
on each pressure given to its thumb. The total cost of designing this bionic hand is
about Rp 1.287.710 and Rp 103.150 for the stretch sensor, this total cost is much
cheaper than most of the bionic hand products in the market. |
