Summary: | The purpose of this research is to study the effect of addition of fly ash material to
the concrete mixture on chloride concentration and chloride diffusion rate. The test
will be carried out on 16 types of concrete. Eight types of concrete will be tested
after 7 days and 8 types of concrete will be tested after 14 days. The concrete
mixtures consist of 0%, 20%, 30% and 40% fly ash addition respectively that
replace the cement content. The concrete cylinders will be cut into 50 mm thick
concrete discs. The chloride diffusion rate will be calculated based on the Nernst-
Planck equation and tested by steady state migration test based on the NT BUILD
355 standard. The results showed that the fly ash addition increase the chloride
resistance, therefore reducing the chloride diffusion rate. Based on the results from
7 days testing, the decrease in chloride concentration for unloaded fly ash blended
concrete is 61.3% while in loaded concrete is 79.8%. The results from the 14 days
testing show that the higher the fly ash content in the concrete mixture, the smaller
the chloride concentration found in concrete. The final results also show that the
highest chloride diffusion rate is obtained from the concrete without fly ash
addition. The chloride diffusion rate for concrete with 40% fly ash content is found
decrease with increasing time.
