INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/54013 Mankind's needs for energy will grow alongside technological advancement. One of our alternative sources of energy is nuclear energy. Conventional nuclear energy uses what is called a fissile material to achieve a sustainable fission reaction. One of the factors that determines a material is fissile or not is its fission barrier. Fission barrier can be determined via understanding the physics behind a nucleus. The main goal of this thesis is to map the values of fission barrier for heavy nuclei. Liquid Drop Model is the method used to simplify the calculation and analysis. This thesis calculates the total binding energy of a nucleus on each step of vibration when the nucleus is under disturbance. Randomized positions of the nucleons will be generated using the Monte Carlo method to simulate the non deterministic nature of the nucleus and is used to calculate the coulomb potential energy section of the binding energy. Total energy of each step then will be utilized to calculate the fission barrier value. This study finds that the fission barrier obtained will have a higher value with the increasing number of nucleons. text
