Description
Summary:Abstract :

Speed, Flow and Density are traffic characteristics that frequently used to express the performance of traffic in a road section.

This study investigated the performance of a fast lane road section, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jakarta. The road was a 4 lane divided road. The road section had two directions, one direction was to Block M and another was to Kota

Speed, flow and density relationships were used in investigating the performance of the road section. Greenshield linear model and Northwestern exponential model were used in the investigation. The data were collected in Thursday, dated February 24th, 2005 in a period of 9 hours 52 minutes. The data were analyses in 5 minutes and 15 minutes time period.

The result was 15 minute period gave a better result than that of 5 minute period. 15 minute period was then selected for analyses. Inner lane width was 296 cm and outer lane width was 316 cm. Greenshield model results were better than that of Northwestern results. The Speed and Density relationship were; for Block M direction, inner lane, Y was 96,46 - 1,099X, outer lane Y was 92,21 - 0.968X, for Kota direction, inner lane, Ywas78,61 - 0.78X, outer lane, Y was 62,84 - 0,44X.

For Block M direction, inner lane free flow speed, Uf is 96,46 km/hr, and that of outer lane, Uf is 92,21 km/hr. For Kota direction, inner lane free flow speed, Uf is 78,61 km/hr and that of outer lane, Uf is 62,84 km/hr. For Block M direction, inner lane maximum density, k, is 88 pcu/km and that of outer lane, k, is 95 pcu/km. For Kota direction, inner lane maximum density, k, is 100 pcu/km and that of outer lane k, is 143 pcu/km.

For Block M direction, in maximum flow condition, 4M, inner lane speed, UM is 48,23 km/hr and density kM is 44 pcu/km and that of outer lane UM is 46,10 km/hr and kM is 48 pcu/km. For Kota direction, in maximum flow condition, qM, inner lane speed, UM is 39,30 km/hr and kM is 50 pcu/km and that of outer lane UM is 31,42 km/hr and kM is 72 pcu/km.

For Block M direction, the capacity of inner lane of 296 cm lane width, qM is 2115 pcu/hr, and that of outer lane of 316 cm lane width, qM is 2202 pcu/hr. For Kota direction, the capacity of inner lane of 296 cm lane width, qM is 1981 pcu/hr and that of outer lane of 316 cm lane width, qM is 2251 pcu/jam.

The traffic did not show either morning peak or afternoon peak. The traffic increased gradually in the morning and then mostly constant during the day and it decreased in evening. The traffic characteristic was mostly the same as the intercity traffic. Thus the road section was assumed and analyzed as rural road. For Block M direction, the average speed of inner lane, US is 49,4 km/hr and that of outer lane, US is 50,55 km/hr. For Kota direction, the average speed of inner lane, US is 53,50 km/hr and that of outer lane, US is 53,26 km/jam.
