Summary: | In accordance with the provisions contained in the United Nations Convention of the Law on the Sea (UNCLOS III) a country has a maritime area covering inland waters, archipelagic waters, territorial sea, additional zone, exclusive economic zone (EEZ), continental shelf (LK) , and the high seas. Indonesia as an archipelago with a geographical form consisting of 16,056 islands (BPS, 2019), of course, has maritime borders with neighboring countries through its sea areas, namely India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Palau, Papua New Guinea (PNG) , Australia and Timor Leste. In 2015, members of the United Nations (UNs) launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which contains 17 targets by 2030. One of the achievements is SDG target 14 which aims to protect marine ecosystems. To protect Indonesia's marine ecosystem, it is necessary to have certainty of sovereign rights and full sovereignty in its territorial waters. The purpose of this study is to determine the development of Indonesia's maritime boundaries with neighboring countries and to know Indonesia's readiness in implementing SDGs goals 14. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method carried out on secondary data related to Indonesia's maritime boundaries with neighboring countries and Indonesia's policies in implementation SDGs goals 14. The results obtained from this study are that Indonesia has 18 maritime boundary agreements with neighboring countries and still needs to fight for its rights and sovereignty in several maritime border areas with neighboring countries and Indonesia is ready to implement SDGs goals 14 with 6 out of 10 targets being achieved.
