EXPRESSING THE VACUUM OF DISTORTION THROUGHFRAMING METHOD USING THE DRAWING MEDIA

The presence of the mass media platform that is currently developing plays a very important role in influencing, shaping, and directing an event or issue that grows in society.The point of view of the mass media, especially in reporting a crucial event and issue regarding the activities of the Muslim community in Indonesia, cannot be avoided from the continuous framing efforts that cause distortion of information and even become a stigma for the majority of religious communities in society. The author, who come from families who are devout Muslims feel disturbed, there are discrepancies, and rejection from within the conscience of the impact of the news broadcast by various mass media regarding the stigma of Islam.Anxiety about the truth of the reality of a religious stigma that is questioned within the framework of the media framing tends to represent a reality that is empty, full of distortions and at the same time inspires the authorto express it through the idea of “Waste of Seeing”by using the deformation method and the abstraction of shapes and color compositions based on pieces of the framing scene presented by mass media through the use of drawing media.The process of creating works uses tracing techniques and posca marker medium on acrylic which is immediate and instantaneous to face the impact of modern mass media.The visualization of each work is achieved through exploration of the forms of distortion, contrast, flatnessof the plane, and the accumulation of layers of colors based on the abstraction stage selected from news images in the mass media which is quite strong in reflecting the obscurity of a truth, the emptiness and vainness felt by the author.This final project produces 6 drawings on the same size acrylic plane layer, where each work has an intensity, characteristics and composition of different color choices.
