Summary: | ABSTRACT:<p align=\"justify\"> <br />
At recent condition, the canal of Pulau Bath Harbour can not be entered by a relatively big ship that wants to visit the harbour. This is because of the depth of water at the canal only between -2m and -4m LWS, where the normal depth should be between -10m and -12m. This condition surely can disturb the process of entry and out of goods and services from and to the Bengkulu Province through the Harbour, and lead to negative impact to economic growth and development of the region. Beside this, erosion that occurred in the down drift area which is in high level (2-5 m, per year) could threat the existence of fisherman village and infrastructure along down drift area.<p align=\"justify\"> Sedimentation process toward up drift area of the break water cause by littoral transport that occurred along shore line near the harbour, lead to sedimentation in the canal. The sedimentation in the canal also add by highly erosion in the down drift. Littoral transport that occurred along shore line near the harbour is in high level up to 601,576.20 m3 per year. Hence, the break water will be full of sedimentation after 5 years. When the break water has full of sedimentation, the sedimentation process will continue to the canal.<p align=\"justify\"> <br />
Surely, this problem has to be solved in near future in order to enhance economic growth and development process of the region. Some alternatives that have been proposed to deal with the problem are <br />
1. constructing sand by passing building with pumping system. It barely <br />
implemented due to high cost require, the building that hard to be <br />
constructed, and low level of successful chance. <br />
2. adding groin in the down drift area. Besides requiring high cost, this alternative only offers temporary solution because sedimentation that occurred in the up drift area is still high. <br />
3. conducting regular dredging. This alternative is similar to the alternative number 2 that are requiring high cost and only offer temporary solution.<p align=\"justify\"> This thesis proposes using tower crane structure to deal with the problem. This alternative has several advantages compare to the previous alternatives. The advantages are -tower crane structure can be constructed and operated with lower cost compare to the other alternatives. As a comparison, regular dredging will cost around Rp. 22.000,- / m3, while using tower crane structure only cost Rp.3.000,-/ m3.<br />
-using tower crane structure offer a permanent solution.<br />
-using tower crane structure also offer a better level of successful chance <br />
-operating tower crane structure will not be affected by bad weather and also will not be disturbing the operation activities of the harbour.<p align=\"justify\"> By using tower crane structure, the sedimentation problem of the harbour\'s canal can be handled solely by the agency that responsible for that (PT Pelindo II at Bengkulu Branch). This make the Government of Bengkulu Province will not be burdened by high cost any longer. The main impact that could be generated are good economic growth and enhance regional development. |
