Summary: | Clean water is essential to human. Only 73% of Indonesian have access to sufficient clean water. Providing clean water is the nation responsibility. Thus, the nation create local government – owned company (PDAM). It is responsible to manage and distribute open water resources in region. PDAM Tirta Gemilang, Magelang regency’s government – owned company aim not only to provide clean water baut also drinking water to Magelang population. It is creating a bottled water company named Makhoa. Makhoa brand has ran for 15 years. It is starting to expand to 600 ml bottled water market. Considering Makhoa is just a business unit in the company, it need a strong concept that will likely to be purchased by the customer.
Finding suitable product concept is no easy task. It need series of engineering steps, coupled with push from marketing aspect to enable the brand to create concept that will likey able to fullfill the customer need. One of suitable choice for the concept development steps explained by the product development steps of Ulrich (2012). Coupled with marketing research using Kano quality model and integrating it with the quality function deployment, finding suitable concept is just a matter of time. Kano quality model enable the development team to distinguish the important attributes and separate it with the less important ones. The QFD enables us to connect the customer to the design team.
One of the output of Kano models for this research is the discoveries of the newly important aspect of a product, which is environmentaly friendly attributes. Such aspect is a difficult problem to solve especially for bottled water product. The QFD helps to take a peek to the competitor approach to the problem, as seen as ades, which try to reduce overall material to reduce trash. The tested concept was able to adress this issue using ades aproach coupled with using material such as biodegradable pastics.
