Summary: | Pollution due to the presence of microplastic particles in the environment has become an important study in the world recently. In previous research, MP particles were found in the Upper Citarum River. The water from the Upper Citarum river flows into the Saguling Reservoir, and is used as a means for floating net cages (KJA) by local residents. The microplastics contained in the river water flowing to the Saguling Reservoir will have an impact on the organisms in it including tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) which are sold and consumed by the community. The concentration of microplastic for each compartment which are water, sediment and fishes are 6.623 ± 3.166 particles/m3, 397.619 ± 2.729 particles/kg, and 3.631 ± 2.729 particles/10 gram, respectively. The lowest estimated loss for fish farmers is IDR 19,674,666.67 / pond farmer / year, the estimated average loss is IDR 26,391,166.67 / pond farmer / year, and the highest loss estimate is IDR 33,107,666.67 / pond farmer / year due to the presence of microplastics. The lowest estimated potential loss from tilapia fish sellers is IDR 19,200,000 / person / year, the average loss is IDR 135,888,000 / person / year, and the highest estimated loss is IDR 840,000,000 / person / year. The lowest estimated potential loss from buyers who refuse to buy is IDR 0 / person / year. The estimated average loss is IDR 336,504.00 / person / year, and the highest estimated loss is IDR 946,400.00 / person / year due to the presence of microplastics. Recommendations related to plastic and microplastic waste management in reducing the impact that can be applied include improving Citarum water quality, improving waste management services, implementing a sustainable circular economy, optimizing social aspects, publishing and enforcing food safety regulations, and increasing the quality and quantity of research and development. |
