Summary: | Typography's ability to create visual images and impressions is an interesting aspect that can be
explored as works of art. In the field of literature, 'puisi mbeling' or concrete poetry can be a
perfect example of processing letters as forms. As Sutardji Calzoum Bachri's credo of poetry,
which states that the word is the meaning itself.
Inspired by Sutardji's poetry creed, in this final project I will explore letters as abstract forms.
How to change the standard letters to be more expressive and dynamic by inserting elements of
gestures in them into a kinetic typography. To achieve this artistic intention, I will combine
traditional printmaking with digital media. In the process, I will create a digitally moving image,
which is then extracted into a series of frame-by-frame images which will be printed using the
screen-print technique. The screen-print results will be processed using a scanner, and digitally
reprocessed into animated video. In the intersection of these two media, there is a change in the
nature of traditional printmaking art work which was originally static, when combined with digital
media it turns into kinetic printmaking art. This work is also my attempt as an expansion of
printmaking art forms into non-conventional works. However, it still contains printmaking art
values. |
