Description
Summary:Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) is one of the crucial impacts of coal mining activities. This issue is becoming increasingly important because acid mine drainage will become a burden in the post-mining period if not appropriately managed. AMD can leach side materials, causing an increase in dissolved heavy metals, including Rare Earth Elements. REE is an essential raw material for applying modern technology whose demand is increasing globally from year to year. The combination of scarce supply and high demand has encouraged various studies to evaluate alternative REE resources. The objective of this study to determine the amount, characteristics and enrichment mechanisms of REE in AMD, moreover this research is a preliminary study on the alternatives of REE resources. AAT at PT. Arutmin Indonesia has a unique characteristic, where there is a natural acid flow. The samples used in this study consisted of mine water samples and rock samples. Physical tests, IC and ICP-MS tests have been carried out on water samples, while the REE concentration of rock samples has not been obtained. There are 10 samples of mine water, having a low pH of 2.90 - 5.2. The concentration of Total REE (excluding Lu and Tb) from 10 samples of mine water ranged from 12.28 ?g/L - 633.90 ?g/L with an average total REE of 215,67 ?g/L. The North American Shale Composite (NASC) normalized REE concentration graph shows the MREE enrichment pattern. The kinetic test with the acrylic leach column was carried out to see the relationship between the acidity of the PAF rock and the REE concentration in AAT. The kinetic test scheme was carried out with PAF+NAF and PAF+Coal coatings to determine whether the acidity of the PAF could leach REE in the layer underneath. At the end of the cycle it is known that the REE concentration of the PAF+NAF sample is higher than the PAF sample itself. In this study, it was known that the SO4 2- had the strongest correlation with the REE concentration in AMD..
