<b>Abstract:<p align=\"justify\"><br /> Solid waste management through collect-transfer-dispose method doesn\'t solve solid waste problem in Cimahi because in practice garbage doesn\'t through any treatment unless open dumping in disposal site. Municipal government of Cimahi is starting to apply composting pilot project in 2004 to solve solid waste problem. This project involves community in garbage sorting and composting management.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Goals of this study are to identdy community readiness in composting pilot project and to find factors that affecting it. Meanwhile objectives are to ident household readiness to participate in garbage sorting and find factors that affecting it, to identify community readiness to participate in composting management and find factors that affecting it, and to formulate recommendation in increasing community readiness.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> This study applies descriptive method, which analyze community tendency in each readiness indicators, the cause of it, and analyze factors that affecting it.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Community that involved in composting pilot project tends to ready for participating in garbage sorting and composting management. Factors that affecting it are: external factors (project socialization and social organization) and internal factors (education, level of neighborhood interaction, long of staying in neighborhood, nativity, and income). Meanwhile community that not involved in composting pilot project yet tends to ready for participating in composting management but not in garbage sorting. Factors that affecting it are: external factor (social organization) and internal factors (education, long of staying in neighborhood, and income). Both communities tend to not having knowledge about garbage sorting and composting caused by project socialization doesn \'t work well.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> This study shows that community readiness in garbage sorting and composting knowledge need to be increased through education and training. Municipal government should involve the core group of community and social organization in educating and training to ensure these activities succeed. <br /> <br />
