Description
Summary:Narcolepsy is a neurological disease resulting in inability of the patients to properly perform daily activities. Treatments of narcolepsy which are focusing on symptomatic management make the therapy of narcolepsy has to be continuously done that can lead to financial burden for the patients. This systematic review aims to summarize and analyze the efficacy of the recommended first-line therapy namely modafinil and sodium oxybate (SXB) as well as their combination and to perform costeffectiveness analysis of the therapy. The systematic review was done by searching related articles on Elsevier Science Direct database through ITB proxy network, using keyword “Modafinil” AND “SXB” AND “Narcolepsy”. The data were then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that SXB as monotherapy can be used to manage EDS and DNS in type 1 and type 2 narcolepsy. The use of combination of SXB and modafinil showed additive effect during trial. It was found that combination of SXB and modafinil is cost-effective compared to SXB or modafinil as monotherapy.
