WELLBORE STABILITY ANALYSIS FOR ARBITRARY WELL BASED ON STRESS MODEL AND BREAKOUT WIDTH

This research is aimed to analyze wellbore stability from ‘Required Co’ stress model and breakout width for arbitrary well to determine a stable drilling direction. It is achieved by calculating stress around the wellbore, comparing the result for vertical well and GPK4 deviated well, then analyz...

It is achieved by calculating stress around the wellbore, comparing the result for vertical well and GPK4 deviated well, then analyze wellbore stability with different wellbore azimuth and inclination. This research is done in GPK4 well of Soultz-sous-Forets site, France at 3500 m depth using in situ stress, rock strength, and azimuth and inclination of well taken from Sahara (2016) with Co = 110 MPa, SHmax azimuth N168E, and strike slip stress regime. GPK4 deviated well has azimuth of N45E with inclination 25°. Method used in this research is taken from a concept developed by Zoback using Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. Based on the calculation and analysis, it is concluded that drilling is safe if done in wellbore azimuth of NE-SW and NW-SE up to inclination of 60° based on ‘Required Co’ stress model and likely to be stable if done toward vertical direction based on breakout width. text
