Rapid development in Province of East Nusa Tenggara needsquality infrastructure support, including water availability.
The Benanain river is one biggest and longest in the Timor Island Province of East Nusa Tenggara, which has catchment area 3158 km2, 128 km in length and 13 (thirteen) tributaries. This is a potential water resource to fulfill various water demand such as drinking water, irrigation, and water power electricity plant.
The Benanain River has substantial rainfall about 1318 mm/year, which the lowest is 1.012 mm/year.August to September usually the lowest periode of rainfall and Desember to Januari. The method used for analizing water availability is the F. J. Mock method. This method simulates monthly water balance in one specified catchment area designated to calculate total run-off by using monthly rain, evapotranspiration, soil humidity, and land availability.
The water availability gained from the result of calculating the water flow in certain river, which is using AWLR ( Automatic Water Level Recorder) and then calibrating with the F.J. Mock method. The water availability in river Benanain relatively in 3.32 m3/sec to 66.57 m3/sec.Which was calculated using F.J. Mock near while, At the moment the largest water demand for irrigation is 21.95 m3/sec.
Over viewing the water availability, there is a lack of water supply in May until November because of long dry season, in other hand, rain season only occun in 5 month,( from December to April). Because of that inbalance season, rearrange, re-using of water and creating a new water plant is a must. text
