Summary: | Waste is one of the major problems arised which is a result of the development of a city.
In Indonesia, waste problem also occurs in Bandung Metropolitan Area (BMA)—a
metropolitan which is still growing rapidly. In the provision of solid waste infrastructure,
a suspicion arises that developers have roles which is able to give effects to waste
problem characteristics in BMA. These roles can be reviewed through the different
characteristics of waste management in the developer and non developer-based housing.
This study explores how the characteristics of the waste management takes place on both
types of housing so that the conditions and needs of solid waste infrastructure services in
Bandung Metropolitan Area can be well-defined. This study will not only identify the type
of housing association on the characteristics of the waste management, but also identify
the characteristics of waste management which take place in each type of housing.
Association between type of housing and waste management will be identified using
statistical association analysis. It is found that the characteristics of the waste
management include aspects of handling, wrapping, collection, and garbage removal.
Results of aforementioned analysis are then used as the basis to identify the forms of
waste management, using descriptive statistical analysis methods. Overall, there is an
association between the type of housing and the waste management characteristics. In
general, developer-based housing tends to have waste management services so that waste
generated can be further processed; while the non developer-based residential area does
not have the same tendency. Even so, the roles of developer are not so significant since
waste management services available to both types of housing is generally managed by
the government. |
