City's development and growth has an impact on the high rate of urbanization and the high demand for residential. One such impact is the emergence of slums. Tamansari and Braga is a slum with a high degree of untidiness contained in Bandung. There are many models of improvement slums in the city of Bandung, but the approach taken is still a physical approach. This study aims weeks to formulate a slums improvement model in Tamansari and Braga based on characteristics and cause of slums approach. The research method is a combination of qualitative and quantitative models. Stages of research begins with the formulation of the characteristics, causes and improvement models existing slums based on the literature, which then acquired the variables used in the study. Furthermore, the formulation of the characteristics, causes and improvement models slums located on the Tamansari and the Braga based on the characteristics of the region through a survey conducted by the method of descriptive statistics and frequency distributions. factor are thought to cause untidiness in the study area is the population density of the environmental factors housing, low income communities, the lack of public awareness, high density building, poor infrastructure conditions, land ownership by the government, the failure of the policy. Appropriate improvement model is a model that has a Slum Upgrading in common with urban renewal through land consolidation that are customized to the conditions of the study area. Companion models derived from Bandung Juara program and Bandung Creative City Forum not taken to realize a comprehensive model of the improvement problems associated with slum settlement located on the Tamansari and Braga.
