Summary: | Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is a non-conventional drilling technology principled maintaining annular wellbore pressure in the pressure window, either as static or dynamic. Generally, the application of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) method is in the formation with a narrow pressure window, for example in Ultra Deep Water formation. By maintaining the annular pressure remain in the pressure window, the various problems that are common in drilling operations such as wellcontrol and over-cost, can be mitigated. And one of the methods in Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is Dual Gradient Drilling (DGD). This method operates by using two gradients of fluid in the wellbore. This condition can be fulfilled with a couple of ways one of which is the using of subsea mudlift.
Dual Gradient Drilling (DGD) is applied by using a heavier gradient fluid along the drillstring, annulus, until the seafloor, and lighter gradient fluid along the riser from the seafloor to rigfloor.
This paper, determined the hydraulic parameters that are important in the design of the MPD-DGD operation. They are mud optimum pumping rate, the pressure acting on the subsea mudpump circulation time, and the back pressure given by subsea mudpump static conditions. |
