EVALUATION OF INJECTION WELL PERFORMANCE USING AND WITHOUT USING MEDIA FILTER BY USING HALL PLOT METHOD IN “X” FIELD, SOUTHERN SUMATERA

The injection of large amount of water, generally the produced water (brine) which has been treated, usually experience problems. The most obvious problem is well-bore plugging in water injection well. It happens because many reasons, such as incompatible water with formation or high concentrations of solids. To make produced water suitable for water injection, water injection plant is needed. A component that many people claim it is the essential one is media filter. This component does not allow certain range of solids to pass through the membrane. In this study, we compare between water injection well performance using and without using media filer as a part of water injection in a mature oil “X” field in South Sumatra Basin, Indonesia. To evaluate the performance, the Hall Plot method is used by making a curve between the pressure at any given time multiplied by the cumulative injection volume given to the wells. At normal conditions, the plot is a straight line. Kinks on the plot indicate changes of injection conditions. Hall (in 1963) presented this technique to interpret routinely collected injection well data to draw conclusions regarding near well-bore skin effects and average injectivity performance. From data of all water injection wells provided from such field, it was found that 22.2 per cent of water injection wells that use media filter show normal condition. On the other hand, 27.3 per cent of water injection wells that do not use media filter show normal condition. Based on the result, we can conclude whether water injection wells performance is better with media filter or not in such field. text
