Description
Summary:Residential terraces are a transitional element of the house in direct contact with the outside environment. Several literature studies on terraces in the tropics have explained that this element has many benefits in terms of environmental and socio-cultural comfort. Several previous studies on the housing preferences of young adult groups indicated that there were groups who did not want terrace space. For some developers, the narrower and more expensive the land makes the terraces an attribute that is first negotiated to be eliminated. From several sources, the group of people with the largest number and percentage in Indonesia is the young adult age group. Thus, their preferences about houses and their attributes are important things to know so that the housing criteria provided can be right on target. Specific research is needed on the object of the terrace in the house from the perspective of the Young Adult age group. This study at the same time complements and confirms previous research on occupancy preferences for young adult age groups. This research was conducted qualitatively with the Grounded Theory method because there has been no previous research regarding the preference for residential terraces from the perspective of young adults. This study uses a preference model as the attribute-consequence-value relationship. attribute and consequence variables are obtained from exploring and finding important categories from the context of the terrace space from the respondent's point of view because there are no findings from similar studies. After that, the search for the relationship between the variables was carried out in two stages. In the first stage, a quantitative analysis is carried out with the cluster analysis method to find the relationship between the attribute variables and the consequential variables. The second stage is to find the relationship between the attribute and consequence variables and the value variables using direct content analysis, namely by direct interpretation of the literature review. Based on this process, there were seven benefits of the front terrace and back terrace for the Young Adult age group
