INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/54791 One of the environmental problems that have existed for a long time is environmental pollution. Industrial and technological development will produce several wastes that not only damaging the environment, but also affects living things. In this research, industrial dye wastes will be treated with adsorption method using activated carbon. Carbons are activated by soaking it in H2SO4 3 M solution for about 3 hours. Carbon activation is done to open up micro pores on the surface of carbon so that the surface area is increased. By adding activated carbons, organic compounds contained inside waste water hoped to be adsorbed to the surface of carbons. The parameters tested on the waste water is total solids and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Total solids is measured by drying waste samples and weighing the residual solids. COD is measured by oxidizing the waste water with KMnO4 in acidic solution and then measuring leftover KMnO4 with oxalic acid. As much as 5 mL waste sample was adsorbed with 4 grams of activated carbon. The total solids measured of the waste sample is 60.100 mg/L and 88.840 mg/L and waste sample’s COD is 48.590mg/L and 56.140 mg/L. After adsorbed with 4 grams of activated carbon, total solids measured became 39.780 mg/L and 61.940 mg/L and COD became 36.340 mg/L dan 36.300 mg/L. text |
