When compared with the current condition of Batu Ampar port, to achieve this target, there is still a performance gap that must be improved. One of the port performances that is still low is the dwell time. The container terminal at Batu Ampar port itself has an average dwell time of 2-3 days by only serving vessels with 60-90 containers. This performance is certainly still far from what it should be to be able to compete with other international hub ports, especially those located close to this port. The dwell time performance is still low when compared to Singapore, which has an average dwell time of 1.2 days, Malaysia has an average of 3 days, and Hong Kong which has an average of 2 days. One of the root causes of the low dwell time performance is the inadequately systemized flow of data and information, both internal and external, originating from business processes that have not been made in detail and standards. This study aims to design an improvement in the container terminal business process to improve its dwell time performance. The design for business process improvement is made using the BPI (Business Process Improvement) method. This business process improvement refers to Inaportnet-related regulations and benchmarking with several world-class ports. In addition, the performance of the business process improvement design is also validated by a simulation method using the BPMN simulation tool, Visual Paradigm. The results of this study indicate that the improvement of business processes using the BPI method, which refers to the application of Inaportnet and benchmarking, can improve the dwell time performance of the Batu Ampar port container terminal from 2-3 days to 1-2 days. The as-is and to-be model business process design simulation results also validate the results of these improvements by producing a dwell time number that is not much different from the dwell time before and after streamlining. The business process design of the As-Is and To-be models can also be used to describe the process performance at the time of implementation by performing simulations based on the required scenarios. text |

According to the 2016-2021 Batam Regional Medium Term Development Plan
(RPJMD), port of Batu Ampar is targeted to become an international hub port.
When compared with the current condition of Batu Ampar port, to achieve this
target, there is still a performance gap that must be improved. One of the port
performances that is still low is the dwell time. The container terminal at Batu
Ampar port itself has an average dwell time of 2-3 days by only serving vessels
with 60-90 containers. This performance is certainly still far from what it should
be to be able to compete with other international hub ports, especially those
located close to this port. The dwell time performance is still low when compared
to Singapore, which has an average dwell time of 1.2 days, Malaysia has an
average of 3 days, and Hong Kong which has an average of 2 days. One of the
root causes of the low dwell time performance is the inadequately systemized flow
of data and information, both internal and external, originating from business
processes that have not been made in detail and standards.
This study aims to design an improvement in the container terminal business
process to improve its dwell time performance. The design for business process
improvement is made using the BPI (Business Process Improvement) method. This
business process improvement refers to Inaportnet-related regulations and
benchmarking with several world-class ports. In addition, the performance of the
business process improvement design is also validated by a simulation method
using the BPMN simulation tool, Visual Paradigm.
The results of this study indicate that the improvement of business processes using
the BPI method, which refers to the application of Inaportnet and benchmarking,
can improve the dwell time performance of the Batu Ampar port container
terminal from 2-3 days to 1-2 days. The as-is and to-be model business process
design simulation results also validate the results of these improvements by
producing a dwell time number that is not much different from the dwell time
before and after streamlining. The business process design of the As-Is and To-be
models can also be used to describe the process performance at the time of
implementation by performing simulations based on the required scenarios.
