Summary: | Many countries have implemented face masks use policy in response to the COVID-19
pandemic. However, there are quite a number of people who are still reluctant to wear
masks because of various things related to their subjective perspective related to COVID-
19 and the effectiveness of using masks. This study discusses the use of masks voluntarily
based on the perspective of game theory in response to COVID-19 and simulates the effect
of using masks on the spread of COVID-19. The results of this study show that game theory
can help explain the behaviour of using masks in response to COVID-19. The use of masks
in the COVID-19 pandemic in the perspective of game theory considers the cost to be
infected, the cost of using a mask and reduction in cost will be infected by the use of masks
by both virus spreaders and virus receiver. The higher the cost of using a mask against the
cost of being infected, the less likely it is to use a mask. The simulation results show the use
of masks can reduce the spread of COVID-19. However, if the level of direct contact is high
and the value of the chance of spreading is high, the use of masks is less effective in
reducing the spread of COVID-19. So it is necessary to consider other policies such as
restrictions on physical contact or lockdown to reduce the spread of COVID-19. |
