Poor leg hygiene and low awareness to immediately treat wounds caused the wound conditions of patients with diabetic foot ulcers to fall into severe category before getting hospital treatment. Severe wound conditions, accompanied by infection, may increase the risk of amputation. After the first amputation, the risk for second amputation in the same year will be high. Therefore, appropriate and comprehensive wound care should be prioritized. One step that can be taken to treat wounds in diabetic foot ulcer patients is the effective use of wound dressing that fits the wound condition. This study was an analysis-observational study conducted retrospectively from 2015-2017. The aim of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the use of framycetin sulfate, chlorhexidine acetate, and polyhexamethylene biguanide as antimicrobial contents in wound dressing based on patient’s length of stay using statistical method t-independent test. Of the 9 diabetic foot ulcer patients classified on Wagner grade 4 that had been amputated, the results showed that the use of wound dressing containing antimicrobial polyhexamethylene biguanide was statistically more effective than chlorhexidine acetate (p = 0.044) and framycetin sulfate (p = 0.027). text
