Therefore, research on hypertension will continue to grow especially welcome in Indonesia. On the other hand, Indonesia has vast natural wealth, and now there are some traditional medicine which is used as an antihypertensive and are required to be developed even become phytopharmaca (Minister Regulation No. 760, 1992). Therefore, research on hypertension and antihypertensive drugs from natural materials will continue to grow in Indonesia. In the research was used animals to test and instruments needed to determine important parameters such as heart rate and blood pressure noninvasively. Unfortunately in Indonesia, instrument available is very limited so it is required to find an alternative that can replace the instrument. This study aimed to pursue the creating of a simple instrument as an alternative to existing tools to measure heart rate and blood pressure in animals, especially rats. The instrument developed in this study consisted of a photoelectric sensor instrument and sphygmomanometer with a tail cuff method. Photoelectric sensor was developed from the sensor used in the human finger. The cuff size was modified so it was able to fit for rats tail. Heart rate and blood pressure in male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 20) were measured then compared with existing tools, namely NIBP System ADInstrument®. Then the value of R 2 was determined to show the relationship of both instruments. For data acquisition the NI USB 6008® and LabVIEW®2011 Service Pack 1 were used. Pulse signal of the blood vessel was successfully obtained although it is difficult to distinguish from noise. From the measurement results of heart rate were obtained the relationship between NIBP System ADInstrument® and photoelectric instrument with R 2 = 0.6652. While blood pressure can not be determined because the pulse signal of tail blood vessel was difficult to distinguish from noise. However, a good signal can be obtained when tested on human finger. The simple instrument has not been established, but with the tail cuff method, photoelectric sensor instrument has the potential to be developed further into a simple instrument noninvasive blood pressure measurement on rats tail. text |
