Summary: | Recently, WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) technology widely used and developed for small to large scale of data retrieval remotely. Data communication in a network was arranged by a routing protocol. A good WSN is judged by several parameters or Quality of Services (QoS). One of them is energy consumption as the nodes have limited resource capabilities. Optimization of energy consumption can be done by building a protocol to regulate the process of data transmission. This research will conduct a study on LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) protocol to help minimize transmission distance and perform data aggregation to reduce the amount of information sent to base station, by create adaptive clusters from the nodes. The study was conducted by simulating the LEACH and direct conventional protocol with MATLAB to obtain a comparison of the value of energy consumption and network lifetime. The simulation results show that the optimum number of cluster head was 4 to 5 cluster heads. It also shows that LEACH protocol is up to 9 times more energy efficient than the direct conventional protocol when using the optimum number of cluster heads for same parameters. It also shows that the lifetime network in LEACH 4 times longer since first node dies and last node dies compared to the direct protocol. |
