Description
Summary:Wound is defined as a disruption of skin integrity, mucous membrane, or organ tissue and could disturb daily activity. An untreated wound could develop into a severe condition. Therefore, wound care is needed to accelerate wound closure. Gotu kola and bitter melon were known could promote wound closure, but it is not known whether its combination had the same wound healing properties or not. This study aims to determine the best composition of Gotu kola extract and bitter melon extract to accelerate wound closure and to determine the most suitable topical dosage form for that combination. A wound-healing test was one on male Wistar rats with an incision wound on their back. Drugs were given daily until day 12, while wound measurement was done on day 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 12. The composition of extract combination used was 1% bitter melon, 10% bitter melon, 1% Gotu kola, 10% Gotu kola, 1% Gotu kola and bitter melon, and 0,5% Gotu kola and bitter melon. The wound area was measured using ImageJ. The wound closure percentage was calculated to be proceeded statistically using one-way ANOVA. The result showed that 1% bitter melon extract in wound dressing form was the best topical dosage form to help to accelerate wound closure compared to other groups.
