LITERATURE STUDY OF METHYL ORANGE AS A MODIFYING AGENT FOR CARBON PASTE ELECTRODES FOR VOLTAMMETRIC DETERMINATION OF ASCORBIC ACID

Ascorbic acid is a chemical compound known as vitamin c which dissolves in air and has antioxidant properties. Vitamin can help the production of collagen, a protein necessary for the wound healing process. Lack of vitamin c results in diseases such as scurvy, the common cold and cancer. Excess vita...

Vitamin can help the production of collagen, a protein necessary for the wound healing process. Lack of vitamin c results in diseases such as scurvy, the common cold and cancer. Excess vitamin c to lead to kidney stones, heart problems, blood thinning, diabetes. The level of ascorbic acid in human blood should be 9 ppm. Therefore, we need a method to determine ascorbic acid levels. The voltammetry method is one method that can be used, because ascorbic acid is an electroactive compound. In this study, discussed the performance of carbon paste electrode modification (EPK) with the voltammetric acid determination method. The modification technique used is Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) which is superimposed on the EPK surface, with methyl orange and ascorbic acid templates. Based on previous research, the peak current of ascorbic acid oxidation in EPK provided by methyl orange was higher than that of EPK without modification. This shows that poly (methyl orange) which has electro-catalytic activity and it has been shown to increase the sensitivity of ascorbic acid measurements. Optimized work parameters prior to implementation of ascorbic acid measurement including pH variations during electropolymerization, monomer and analyte ratios, variations in supporting electrolytes, and the voltammetry technique used. By optimizing some of the work parameters above, it is hoped that the sensitivity of ascorbic acid measurement will increase text
