INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/55067 The increase of the amount of dye waste that contaminates the waters may be dangerous for the environmental sustainability as well as the people’s health. Methylene blue is one of the cationic dyes. Generally, almost all of the dyes are difficult to degrade thus the remain for a long time in the environment. Therefore, the efforts to manage dye waste is crucial to be carried out. This research has prepared polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-alginate-Fe3O4 composite adsorbent with the composition ratio of 4:5:1.5 (% w/v). A number of research stages have been conducted to learn about the performance of the composite in eliminating the methylene blue from the water. Several conditions that affect the dye removal by adsorbent include pH of a solution, contact time, dye concentration, and adsorbent mass that have been examined. The optimal condition on the adsorption of 100 ppm methylene blue was reached at the use of 0.1 gram PVA-alginate-Fe3O4 adsorbent with the ratio of 4:5:1.5 (% w/v), the pH solution is 4, and the contact time of 240 minutes. The adsorption process followed the pseudo second-order kinetics model and Sips adsorption isotherm model. The maximum adsorption capacity is 222.99 mg.g-1. text
