Chrome is a metal that has shown high corrosion resistance, however chrome can be oxidized by its environment into Cr(VI) which is a carcinogen. Molybdenum and tungsten can be used as alternatives that can be combined with nickel to produce alloys that are stronger and more resistant to corrosion. Various factors can be observed that determine the structure of a metal alloy, the corrosion resistance of the metal alloy and the physical properties of the metal alloy. These factors that can be adjusted to regulate the properties and structure of the alloys formed includes electrolyte concentration, additive concentration, current size and temperature when electrodeposition takes place. The metal alloys formed can be subjected to their corrosion resistance in NaCl solution to test the corrosion resistance of the alloy to chloride anions and corrosion rates of the alloys obtained can be obtained by several methods such as measurement of lost weight, measurement of corrosion potential and measurement of passivation potential. text |
